HELP
Introduction
We are continually making changes to our web site to make it more functional, more attractive and easier to use.  While our goal is always to better serve you, we recognize that some of these changes may be a bit confusing initially.  This section should "Help" with some of that confusion.  If you have questions that are not answered within this section, Contact Us via e-mail or contact your Marketing representative.
Browser Information
To take full advantage of the improvements made to the web site, it is important that you have an up-to-date web browser.  This site is best viewed using Microsoft's Internet Explorer.  If you are using a version of Internet Explorer older than Version 3.02, you must update your browser.  To check the version number of your browser, click on the "Help" menu at the top of the browser window, then click on "About Internet Explorer".  You can download a free copy of the most recent version by clicking this button.

This Site is Best Viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer

We realize that Netscape Navigator is also a very popular web browser.  If you are using a version of Navigator that is older than Version 3.0, you must update your browser.  To check the version number of your browser, click on the "Help" menu at the top of the browser window, then click on "About Navigator" or "About Communicator".  You can download a free copy of the most recent version by clicking here.  If you are using a browser other than the two mentioned, we will leave it to you to be sure your browser is up-to-date.

America Online
Version Information
America Online has several different applications depending upon the operating system being used.  For PC-compatible computers, there is a 32-bit application of AOL for Windows95 and a 16-bit application of AOL intended for Windows 3.1.  Most Windows95 applications run on WindowsNT.  However, because AOL does not support WindowsNT, only the 16-bit application will run on WindowsNT.  This is important because the 16-bit application of AOL 3.0 does not interact properly with an up-to-date browser as described in the Browser Information section above.  Therefor, if you are running AOL 3.0 on Windows 3.1 or WindowsNT, you must download the recently released AOL Version 4.0.  If you are not sure which version of America Online you are using, click on the Help menu at the top of the AOL window.  Then click on "About America Online".  Remember, no matter which version of America Online you are using, you still must use an up-to-date browser.

Running Browser Outside of AOL
To enjoy the full functionality of your web browser, you may run your browser outside of America Online.  Running outside of AOL may also allow your browser to run faster.   This can be done with all versions of AOL, even AOL for Macintosh.  If you are currently reading this within an AOL window, print these instructions because you will need to minimize this window.  Before beginning, be sure you can open your web browser outside of AOL.  This can be done by clicking on the browser icon or using the Windows "Start" menu or Macintosh "Apple" menu.

To run your browser outside of America Online, you will need to set up America Online as your proxy server.  This is a one-time change.  It is not necessary each time you use your browser.

  • To change your proxy settings in Microsoft's Internet Explorer Version 4*, click on "View" in the menu bar at the top of the window, then click on "Internet Options".  Next click on the "Connection" tab, then check the box to "Access the Internet using a proxy server".  In the "Address:" box, type www3.proxy.aol.com.  In the "Port:" box, type 80.  Do the same for the "Security:" boxes.  Then click "OK".
  • To do this in a Netscape Communicator*, click on "Edit" in the menu bar at the top of the window, then click on "Preferences".  Next double-click on "Advanced" under "Category", then click on "Proxies".  Select "Manual proxy configuration", then click on the "View" button.  In the "HTTP:" Address box, type www3.proxy.aol.com.  In the "HTTP:" Port box, type 80.  Do the same for the "Security:" boxes.  Then click "OK" and click "OK" again.
    *  If you are using a different version of the browser, there may be very minor differences in the screens.  However, the process is almost identical.

Once you have changed your proxy settings and you are ready to use your web browser, sign-on to AOL, then minimize the AOL window.  Next open your browser outside of AOL by clicking on the browser icon or using the Windows "Start" menu or Macintosh "Apple" menu.  Do not open the browser within the AOL window.  You may now use all of the features of the browser.  Be sure to sign off of AOL when you have finished.

Security
Encryption
When a secure connection is made, the https protocol is used.  This is evident because URL will begin https:// instead of http://.  The highest level of encryption that is shared by both the web browser and the web server is used to make the connection.  The default encryption level for both web servers and browsers is 40-bit encryption.  The highest level of encryption available is 128-bit encryption.

To determine the level of encryption used on an encrypted page, right-click on the page to view the Properties or double-click the key or lock in the status bar at the bottom of your browser window.  You may use these links to download the 128-bit upgrade for Microsoft Internet Explorer or the 128-bit version of Netscape Communicator.

If you are using a proxy server, be sure that you have the same proxy settings for both the "HTTP:" and "Security:" boxes.  If you have further questions regarding the encryption used on this site, Contact Us via e-mail.  If you would like more detailed information on encryption, please refer to RSA or Verisign.

Password
An agency or agent may have a password on file and use that password to logon instead of the tax ID or Social Security number.  If there is a password on file, only that password may be used to logon.  If there is no password on file, only the tax ID or Social Security number may be used to logon.  There can be only one password per agency/agent number.  This means your agency staff must use the same password, but each licensed agent may have his/her own password.

If you can not remember your password, you should call Administrative Services or your Marketing coordinator and ask to have your password removed.  The coordinator will not be able to read or change your password.  The coordinator will only be able to remove your password.  You may then logon with your tax ID or Social Security number.  After logging on, you should then set your password on the "Preferences" page.

Policy Reissues
The most expedient way to have a policy reissued is to request it online at www.lgamerica.com. This online service is provided for general agents only.  When a general agent accesses any of the screens in the New Business section, there will be a Reissue Request link at the bottom of the left column.  Clicking that link will open a window asking for the number of the policy to be reissued.  Enter the desired policy number and click "OK".

Once the Reissue Request form has loaded, enter your name and email address in the Requestor fields at the top of the page.  The desired policy changes can be made by entering the necessary data in the appropriate fields.  As needed, pop-up windows will prompt you to enter additional information.  For example, if you select Specific Policy Date from the drop-down list in the Policy Effective Date area, a window will pop up asking your for the specific date.  The Comments field at the end of the page can be used for any special instructions.

Reissue requests that do not require approval from the Underwriting department are processed within 1 business day.  If a request requires Underwriting approval and Underwriting does not require any additional information, it would be processed within two business days.  Requests that require Underwriting approval include:

  • Change policy effective date to current or future date
  • Increase face amount
  • Change plan to one with a longer coverage period
  • Change underwriting class
  • Issue additional or alternate policy
  • Add Waiver of Premium or Waiver of Monthly Deduction
  • Change beneficiary or owner
  • Any case that involves facultative reinsurance

To keep track of policy reissues, an additional New Business category has been added for reissues.  The Reissues page makes it easy for you to check the status of your request.  The page separates the policy reissues according to the current phase of the reissue process:

  • Reissues Recently Requested
  • Reissues In-Process
  • Reissues Processed Pending Delivery Requirements
  • Reissues Activated
  • Reissues Denied
Printing
Printing a page containing frames is handled differently by different browsers and different operating systems.  In most cases you will want to print only the "main" frame of the page, which is the one you are reading currently.  Below are the instructions for doing this in Microsoft's Internet Explorer Version 4.

Choosing "Print" from the "File" menu in Microsoft's Internet Explorer Version 4 with Windows95 or WindowsNT opens a window which allows 3 print options:   print the screen as laid out, print only the selected frame, or print all frames individually.  Click the desired print option and then click "OK".  A faster alternative to print a single frame is to click the "Print" button which will automatically print only the selected frame.

Clicking anywhere in the frame that you want to print will select that frame.  If you are using Version 4 of Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator, when you enter a page on our web site, the "main" frame will already be selected.   So you may click "Print" immediately if you want to print the "main" frame.

Illustration Manager
To run Illustration Manager, click the appropriate product on the "Run Illustration"  screen.  You may then enter the appropriate information for the illustration.  Once you have completed entering the information, you may click "Quick Print" or "Formal Print" button.  The "Quick Print" option will only display the illustration detail.  The "Formal Print" option will display the illustration detail, summary, and explanation and will also archive the illustration for future reference.   Illustrations will remain archived for ten days.

To view a "Formal Print", Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 (or newer) must be installed on your PC.  Click the button below to download this software at no cost.

Get The Free Adobe Acrobat Reader

The instructions to download the latest version of Illustration Manager software are included in the "Download Software" page.

Preferences
If there is a password on file, when you enter the "Preferences" page, there will be eight asterisks in both the "Password" and "Confirm Password" boxes.  If you do not wish to change your password, simply leave the asterisks in the boxes.  If you would like to create or change a  password, type the new password in both the "Password" and "Confirm Password" boxes.  Your password may be up to eight characters long and may contain letters and/or numbers.

If you have an e-mail address, please type your e-mail address in the "E-Mail" box.  There will only be one Preferences file kept per agency/agent number.  In turn, there will only be one password and one e-mail address kept on file per agency/agent number.

Finding a Policy
To find a policy number on a particularly long page, use your browser's "Find" utility.  The "Find" utility can be found in the Edit menu at the top of your browser window or by pressing the "Ctrl" and "F" keys simultaneously.

Simply type the policy number, agent name, or whatever text you desire in the box labeled "Find what:".   Then press the "Find next" button.
